Liebster Award #1
Recently, RubiosWander was nominated for two separate Liebster Awards. I’m so thankful for the nominations and am excited to answer all of the questions so that you can get to know us a little better.
The first nomination was from Clare over at Suitcases & Sandcastles. She lives in the UK and has plenty of posts about London and all over Europe. We used her recommendation to do a Seine River tour while in Paris, and it was one of our favorite things we did! She has lots of other great recommendations and tips so if you aren’t following her along, do it now!
What is a Liebster Award?
A Liebster is an award given by other award winners to fairly new bloggers to promote and recognize up and coming blogs. In German, ‘liebster’ means ‘dearest’ or ‘sweetest’. The award was created to recognize new bloggers and welcome them to the blogosphere. (In reality, it’s no award at all, just something fun to do for bloggers and a way to meet some new ones).
What are the rules?
Once you have been nominated you need to write a blog post thanking the person who nominated you, with a link back to their website, and answer the questions they’ve asked you. Then you nominate other blogs of your choice and provide up to 11 questions for them to answer.
Here are her 11 questions and my answers:
What do you most enjoy about blogging? I really love writing about our family trips and having a digital record for my girls of all the amazing adventures we’ve had together. It helps me to stay organized with all my photos, and it’s such an easy way to share with our friends & family the details of our trips.
Where do you write most of your blogs? Most of them are written in Notes on my phone and then pasted into WordPress. I’m usually writing them in the passenger seat of the car, in the living room during nap time, or laying in bed in the middle of the night after having too much Diet Coke that day.
What’s your best piece of travel advice? Plan for the unexpected! You never know what can happen when you get off your routine and out of the norm (or out of your time zone). So have lots of snacks, plenty of water, and be as patient as you can!
What’s your least favorite part about traveling? We recently have not wanted to come home. Maybe we are just choosing all the right trips, but the return flight is definitely my least favorite!
How would you describe your packing style? We are last minute packers for sure. We typically bring just the right amount of clothes, and pack them all the night before we leave. It is usually after the girls go to bed, or else they like to “help” fold everything.
What do you always take with you? We always bring an extra charged battery and an extra memory card, just in case. I can’t imagine not being able to use my camera while out in a new city! In case you’re wondering, we use our iPhone’s and a FujiFilm x100T.
Name three of your favorite books. My husband and I are not big into reading, other than travel books before heading off to a new location. However, I have memorized plenty of children’s books after reading them so many times to my girls! GoodNight Moon, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Princess Baby, and Ten Tiny Babies just to name a few 🙂
Beach shack, five-star luxury hotel or gypsy caravan, what’s the best place you’ve ever stayed in? On our baby moon while pregnant with Adele, we went to Hawaii and stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa. It was gorgeous and total luxury throughout. The pools were incredible, the view was obviously world-class, and just a 10 minute walk to go snorkeling at Black Rock. We talk about it all the time and can’t wait to go back!
What’s the worst place you’ve ever stayed in? This is easy. We had an overnight “first-class” train ride from Cairo to Luxor and it was so awful. Our room was so tiny that Chris couldn’t even extend his legs without his feet & head touching a wall. I slept on the top bunk and am thankful for the bars that held me in or else I’m pretty sure I would’ve fallen out each time we had to make a stop because it was so jerky. The bathrooms had no showers, only toilets, and there was at least 2 inches of standing water on the ground in there. Ew!!! After the train ride, we went for a night camping in the White Desert, so we ended up going almost 3 full days without showering! We were so happy when that was over!
Which place would you most like to go back to? I want to go back to Switzerland in the summertime. We visited during a Spring blizzard a few years ago and everyone was talking about how beautiful it would be there in the upcoming weeks. Let’s be honest – I just want to see the Swiss Alps with the green fields and sing “The Hills Are Alive” while running in a dress!
What’s your biggest travel regret? I was really close to participating in a study abroad program during college to go to Chile but then backed out at the last minute. I felt I didn’t know enough Spanish to really get around all summer, and now looking back, I know how ridiculous that sounds and wish that I would’ve just gone.
And the new nominations are….
Meandering Madcaps – Amanda is about as real as they get. Her blogs and photo captions make me LOL quite frequently. Her little family travels as often as their schedules allow, and it’s very inspiring!
Wanderlust Crew – A family of 6 world schooling throughout the US & Europe, and who knows where to next?! If you aren’t following them yet, do it now! Their blogs are informative and their kids are adorable.
